 SLEEP RELATED BREATHING DISORDERS LABORATORY
Northwest’s Sleep Disorder Laboratory offers services to meet the increasing demand for the diagnosis and treatment of sleep related disorders. The goal of the program is to diagnose the individuals sleep disorder and educate the person to self manage their sleep disorder and restore restful sleep. The Laboratory operates under the medical direction of a pulmonologist, who is Board Certified in Sleep Medicine, and three registered and two certified respiratory therapists who have experience in sleep disorders. Two spacious converted patient rooms each offering a private bath, provide a comfortable and quiet environment for patients to have the sleep study performed. Each room offers advanced technological digital polysomnography with continuous audio and video monitoring. The technologist is continually monitoring the patient while asleep and is nearby in case the patient should need help.
Sleep problems that can be diagnosed at the Laboratory include:
Sleep Apnea (breathing problem)
Insomnia (trouble falling asleep or staying asleep)
Narcolepsy (falling asleep suddenly many times a day)
Periodic Leg Movement Disorder
Restless Legs Syndrome
Excessive Daytime Sleepiness
Drowsy Driving
Bruxism
Symptoms that may indicate the need for a diagnostic sleep study include:
Awakening from sleep short of breath
Snoring loudly enough that others complain
Falling asleep during the day, while driving, when laughing or crying
Having trouble at work or school because of sleepiness
Feeling paralyzed when waking or falling asleep
Feeling afraid to fall asleep; having nightmares
Noticing parts of the body jerking
Having morning jaw pain
Waking frequently during the night
