SERVICES
Medical oncology involves the systematic management of malignant diseases. The main method of medical oncology treatment is chemotherapy, which involves treating cancer with a variety of advanced drugs.
Hormonal therapy and biologic agents are also used for cancer treatment. More effective drugs and newly developed biologic agents have significantly increased our ability to treat many common cancers and result in fewer side effects as well.
Northwest’s medical staff provides a customized treatment plan for each of our patients, while working with the network oncology pharmacist to coordinate daily treatment regimens.
In addition to state-of-the-art linear accelerators, Northwest Cancer Center utilizes a combination of CT simulators and three-dimensional treatment planning computers in our radiation oncology center.
With advanced computer technology, we are able to service our patients with remote treatment planning from a central location. From this site, data is analyzed, manipulated, and processed. Then the information is transferred directly back to the local treatment center.
Three-dimensional planning allows for enhanced tumor definition, which enables the physician to form more specific protective lead-like devices that more accurately protect critical organs close to the cancer. The sparing of critical organs and tissues decreases the number of side effects from the cancer treatment.
